Electric Scooter Battery Voltage, Current Capacity and Science Stuff

When it comes to electric scooter batteries, each battery will have two crucial numbers associated with it... volts (V) and current capacity rated in milliamp-hours (mAh). Batteries on most entry level electric scooters are 36V, while the higher end scooters are often either 48V, 52V, 60V or for the most high-performance scooters 72V. The milliamp-hours usually range from 5 mAh (entry level) up to 35+ mAh (longest range batteries). 

A higher voltage battery can deliver more power to the motor, resulting in increased acceleration and top speed. Similarly, a higher current capacity enables the motor to draw more power from the battery, contributing to improved performance. If two scooters have the same battery voltage and same motor wattage, the current capacity in mAh can be used to compare which will have theoretically longer range in miles per charge. For example, if Scooter A and Scooter B both have a 36V battery and a 300W motor, but Scooter A has a mHr of 5 while Scooter B has a mHr current of 10, than Scooter B will be able to go twice the number of miles as Scooter A.
